Some pet farms are selling sick pets?

When we want a furkid, we have decided to commit to the furkid as a part of our life and to take care of it be it sick or old.

This little debbie caught my attention on 08 June 2008 while I was browsing in the pet farms for a new pet.  Actually she wasn’t displayed with the other animals in the shop, she was hidden behind the displays and brought out by the seller when I asked to look for a Golden Retriever.  She brought the dog out and showed it to me and my family; it was almost love at first sight.  We wanted the dog but the seller claims that she is not ready for collection we have to wait till next week after her first jab, so we paid the deposit and left.

On 13 June 08, we went back to the shop to bring Debbie home.  On that day, the seller then told us that we have to buy from her some vitamins and food that costs $300 for the dog in order for the dog to grow well and healthy.  She did not state this condition when we made the deposit and we felt extorted and lost.  We decided NOT to buy from her because she did not inform us about this initially and we felt cheated.  My mum signed the documents stating that the farm is not responsible for the health of the dog since we did not purchase the food from them.  Also, the appointment card on debbie stated that she had her first vaccination on 08 April 2008 and next vaccination due date on 22 April 2008 (but she didn’t had her second vaccination, and the shop lied to us saying that she just had her first jab so we could not take her home.) The shop only gave us 1 day for Debbie’s medical checkup and 1 week warranty if she is sick.

Finally, Debbie had a nice and sweet home we thought.  But it didn’t last.

The dog became sick a few days later and we thought it was perfectly fine because she had a change of environment and she need some time to adjust.  We let her be and still plays around with her..

Then on 18 June 2008 that night, we saw that she was coughing and phlegm oozing from her nose, so we brought it down to a vet in East Point the next working day and she was diagnosed with Cold.  Vet says that she needs to be monitored breathing daily, No airconditioning for now, ensure eating well, keep indoors and feed more.  Her case was reviewed 5 days later.

On 23 June 2008, we went back to the same vet and her case got worsened.  Debbie was diagnosed with very skinny, increase amount of food we are feeding her and continue medication from the last visit.  The problem is she didn’t have the appetite since the last visit.  How can I increase the amount of food I am feeding her if she vomits?  Ridiculous!

On 26 June 2008 night, she had much difficulty breathing again so we brought her to another vet in Paya Lebar the next day and he immediately refered us to Mount Pleasant Hospital.  Upon a look at Debbie, he knows that the dog is in critical condition and has to be dealt by the hospital.  The hospital took an x-ray of her and inform us that that her lungs are badly infected and she was to be warded.

On 28 June 2008, while me and my family was on the way to visit Debbie, we receive a call from the hospital that Debbie has been infected with a contagious virus that causes her body to twitch and phlegm to be coming out from her nose.  Her condition is critical but yet beyond hope and cure.  The only way was to put her to sleep by enthanasia.

Im both sad and frustrated about the rules pet farms DO not have to follow regarding the 2 vaccinations.

On the other hand, many people DID advise me to go back to the pet shop to ask for compensation or refund.  I did my fair part.  I called the pet shop up and inform them about the situation but seems to them that it is just another product gone bad?  They asked me to go down to the shop for a discussion but I told them that I would like to speak to their boss but they denied me in a harsh tone.  Whats wrong with me talking to the boss eh?  I wanted more justice for the dog!  ‘Why are your salesgirl pushing a sick puppy to me and making me a murderer?’

My beloved pet friends, its about a life.  About conscience and doing the right thing.  Its not about the money we’re concerned about.  I’m not KEEN in keeping any of their pets in my house too since they already gave me a sick puppy, no one can ensure they won’t give me another sick puppy again?  No one would patronise the same shop they had bad experienced on.

Do remember to bring your dogs for checkup before its too late.  I regret my situation but I will persist on a good explaination till someone gives me.

Update: there’are quite a few doubtful points that I must consider and I should report to authority regarding their act.  I did NOT, in any way, mentioned the company name in my blog thus I’m not liable for defamation =)
