Happy New Year 2012!

As usual, the blog entries only get inspired during new year for a short while when I realised that I have neglected this space too much.  Well, since I do have a soul mate, its not uncommon for one to abandon the ‘blog’.

New Line6 HD400 Multi Effects

Behringer X-Vamp

My Behringer X-vamp finally mets its doomsday.  Initially I know it was just the power cable that was faulty (it was really fault) but after I manage to get another replacement power adapter, the input pin couldn’t fit into the pedal and I made another trip down to the guitar shop to get the input converter.

Finally, just when I thought it should be working fine because it has power already, it failed me again =(  The effects can’t seem to render any output at all.  So I switched to the tuner and hope that it could detect my guitar pickups at least but no, it didn’t.  Waste my time and money running to several places to get the adapter, bloodly idiot.

So after much consideration (since I have some extra moolahs on hand), I get to choose between the cheapest, cheap and the expensives.  I could just get a cheap pedal like the behringer x-vamp but I didn’t like its feel.  It feels cheap, plastic-ish and the effects are really, noisy instead of pleasing.  I can’t do proper covers using that crap so I need something better.

So the shop I chanced upon was selling this Korg-AX3000g which is a legendary good effects but been around in the industry for 5 years and alot of online shops have discontinued this product, I reckon Korg might be releasing something newer in time to come but not sure when.  I tried it and it feels good but psychologically, I just feel that I am using old tech and I shouldn’t waste money to buy old tech.  Who buys pentium 4 3ghz single core when there’s quad cores?  We rather pay that extra little more since its newer and doesn’t phase out in the next 2-3years.

Another effects I tried was the Zoom G7.1ut.  The feel and overall was good but same thing, its pretty much old tech since it was selling back in 2006s.  Again, I won’t want to pay my $3xx.00 on an old tech gadget.  Zoom g9.1 looks good too but its slightly costly ($46x.00)  although I can afford it, but I told myself no, try another one.  I said, the one with HD.

It has a built in looper, a USB sound card for listening and recording (the output from the soundcard is really awesome!).  Although the model HD400 & HD300 only allow up to 4 simultaneous effects, it should be sufficient enough for me as a learner.

My gig bag with power adapters and my beta aivin acoustic simulation pedal.

The knobs for adjusting the amp, effects and equalisers.

The buttons on pedalboard.

I know the pictures quality are pretty low but the effects and guitar is in my dorm while my DSLR is sitting in the dry cabinet at home =/  I will definitely upload a high res photo of it.  Meanwhile, let me jam and admire this state-of-the-art multi-effects.

A Photo With Vernetta Lopez

Me and Vernetta Lopez

Oh.. for those of you who wasn’t born yet when I was watching Under One Roof starring Moses Lim, this is Vernetta Lopez who co-stared in the series as Moses Lim’s Daugher =)  Haven’t seen her on the screen for a long long time until that day, during my friend’s Solemnization, she was the emcee for them and this is how I got the chance to get this close up shot with her 😀

She is a very friendly and approachable person.  If I wasnt carried away by my friends solemnization I might have sat down right beside her table and start asking her questions like ‘OMG! I haven’t seen you on the screen for a long long time! Whats keep you busy lately!?’ etc.

So I came back home and started googling about her (since I didn’t get my chance to ask her) and came upon an article that has her interview with questions I might wanna ask.

So for those of you who are getting married soon, you might considering hiring her services (or visit www.eternallyyours.com.sg)

And this is not an advertisement.  This is out of goodwill my friends!

Jay Chou Concert 2010 – World Tour Singapore

Could have taken more photos at the concert but was stopped by the crews (instead of security) and I had to spoke to the supervisor so that I dont have to place my expensive equipment in their incompetent plastic lockers.  By placing my camera in their lockers, I have to ensure that I dont lose the keys (myself) and worry about my equipment because its out of my sight!  I really condemn Singapore Indoor Stadiums for their security policies.  Places like D’marquee and Singapore Expo dont even restrict you from bringing DSLR in.  This is freedom.   Afterall, everyone who paid for the concert expects to bring some memories home so thats why we bring a DSLR to capture the moments.    I’m not the only 1 whining about the Singapore Indoor Stadium policies.  Infact, everytime there is a concert at the indoor stadium, I would think thrice whether to attend the concert.  Ofcourse, we’re there to support the singers and watch their live performances but thinking about the policies just irks me.

I’ve got more Jays photo to share but they’re not sharp and clear =(  All thanks to the hide&seek game I was playing with the crews.  Nonetheless, I had enjoyed myself alot in the concert.  And by the way, this is the first time I attended a FULL HOUSE concert in Singapore!  Very very full!  And so full, he had to do 3 concerts to fulfill most of our desires!   He’s fucking fantastic.  Anyways, here are some videos done by @princesspinky89:

Yet another decision making

Decision making, just 2 words, which means to make a decision.  Whether you like it anot, regret it anot, you have to choose something that affects your life now or in future.

Yesterday, or should I say since last week, I was put to another decision making dilemma.  There were a variety of choices and each choice, inevitably, may affect my future career and which industry do I want to progress.  And ofcourse, we all know that this degree, afterall, is just a paper and everything you learn may not be applied to your future work.  Like it anot, we may have to work on a job that may be out of our expertise as well.

So the school was quite strict, there wasn’t much choice for me this semester except to take the advance networking course and network security course, try to clear up all my redundant electives and endure for another 1.5years before Im ready to work in the society.

I often thought myself as either a Photographer, a Police Officer or a Infomation Systems Manager/Engineer.  I might be taking CCNA/CCNP in the near future, at least before I graduate so that I can stand a better chance to other candidates for application to a job.  For the first 2 jobs, it’s a definitely no-no for my girl because a photographer works both day and night, rushing assignments and police officer is just too much of a risk for me.

Anyway, my application for an accommodation hall in the next semester had failed me.  Despite having almost the highest cutoff point, the school committee has decided to ‘up’ the standard because there were just too many students with that highest cutoff point, and that is totally so unfair.  I’m trying to see if I can get myself a temporary van or car to last for the next 1.5years so that I can still drive to school/work and avoid those ‘heavy-smoker’ smell commuters; they makes me suffocate and nauseous on the train!  And my lessons may start at 12.30pm and ends at 830pm everyday.  Yes thinking of that too, irks me.

Witnessing an accident

I never thought that I would ever see an accident right infront of me and today I did and  right infront of my naked eyes.  The car infront of me was trying to move out into the opposite lane on a T-junction.  However, there was a traffic light at another junction so the car was waiting for some clearance at the junction box before he moves out.  A class 4 lorry then came and stopped at the junction box, allowing the car to move out to the opposite road.  When the car was moving out slowly from the junction box, then came a few motorcycles in slow speed and they didnt know that there is a car coming out because it was blocked by the lorry.  The car also did not know about the existence of the motorbikes, so he slowly moved out.  In a split second, 1 motorbike which was the first to cross the junction box missed by a few inches from the car, just that few inches.  Then another motorbike was less fortunate.  She wasnt able to stop in time and the accident was in a split second.  Her front wheel hit onto the car’s front right wheel gap, which caused tremendous impact on her bike and body.  She was thrown almost 180degrees onto the front of the car bonnet and fell to the ground immediately.

Other then the driver who hit her, I came out from my vehicle to help her as well.  I have a first aid cert on hand, it is my duty to ensure that she is safe and sound.  Then I called the emergency hotline for ambulance which took them about 10mins because of traffic congestions during that peak period.  The police officers came down in a swift moment to provide support for the victim and stabilizing the traffic condition.  Then I left my statement and particulars and left the place.

During that period, ofcourse there were hundred pairs of eyes looking at us and noone volunteered/offered to help in any way =/  Really disappointed with the people.  But again, who would want to poke their noses into this kind of thing?  When garment says give money, everyone wants to take.  When someone have accident, you see until happy liao walk away~  That is life =(

I dont want to see this kind of accident anymore.  Please.

Jay Chou Concert 2010 (2)

After struggling for hours with @princesspinky89 at sistic website again, we finally got a pair of tickets at Cat 4 ($138). It may not be the best seats or the preferred Cat (we were hoping for Cat 3!) but its definitely better than nothing.

This time round, its not @princesspinky89 that wanted to go, and instead it was me who insisted that we should watch this long anticipated concert of the year! I’m very curious about the crowd and WHY, is everyone else, so crazy about Jay’s concert.

The ticket sales this time round is still limited to OCBC card holders, so its really unfair to those people who do not own an OCBC card (finally I feel proud to own 1 now.) Still, the tickets were near sold-offs within 2 hours. There were certain point of where the website showed only single seats available in all category.

Would Jay Chou & organisers open 1 more show? The chances are low I guess, who would know a small red dot like Singapore has got so many supporters but they cant apprehend to everyones liking. Part of marketing is that if you can satisfy everyone’s demand then the next concert everyone will be expecting the same thing; i.e. they will open more and more shows to satisfy the crowd. Look from the point of a restaurant as well, if your restaurant is crowded, you can’t add in more seats and tables just because you want more sales. Also note about the comfortability of other customers and space constraints. You really cant satisfy everyone.

And for sistic, if your I.T department haven’t told you about this, its time for you to replace them. You should implement a tunnelling VPN for all your service counter and telephone service computers so that they dont get jammed up along with your web server running on IIS. And set priority on IIS to allow your intranet to book before the others, whats the point of us going to your counter/calling you and you keep telling us you share the same system as us and the web server is not responding -_-. And do some load-balancing farm for your webservers.

Now I gota bring DSLR into there and hopefully dear allow me to rent a 70-200L IS lens to bring there 😀
