Jay Chou Concert 2010

Image from phing.com

In barely 2hours, Singapore official leading ticket seller in charge of selling the tickets for Jay Chou 2010 Concert tickets, Sistic, got ‘raped’ virtually as crazy fans hog on to the website since 9am and telephone lines were so busy, I bet they haven’t have a condition like this before.

The website couldn’t take the load as thousands of fans try to best to click on the button that can bring that them mayhem this 24th July.  His concert was long waited.  Everyone seized the chance of getting the tickets and none, would actually give up their tickets.  The sales started at 9am on the website for OCBC card holders only.  Even for those without OCBC credit/debit cards, they hog on to the tickets for as long as they could so that in the mean time they could get someone with an OCBC card to help them purchase the tickets.

Ironically, I have an OCBC card.  I could have placed my order as early as all the other crazy fans would but I wasnt able to.  In my OCBC Debit card, its value would never exceed more than 3 digits because I would only use it to watch movies.  Occasionally, on Sistic tickets but its really rare, and I would transfer some money in before I purchase the ticket.

The crazy phenomenon is that Everyone SEEMS to own an OCBC card.  I have no idea either.  Tickets were selling damn fast and by the next time you refresh your browser, ‘boo’, whats left is some unwanted category and single seats.  I tried calling into the office, hoping they have their own ‘GUI’ like those cinema tickets where they can choose the seats but the customer service representative insisted that they share the same system as us.  Which is, what they see is the same as us, so it really made the call pointless.

And there were some mofos who actually seized the opportunity to purchase MORE tickets and selling at incredibly HIGH margin.  Cat1 ($228) tickets were selling at $500 each.  Cat 2 ($198) were selling at $400 each.  Cat3 ($168) were selling at $350 each.  The price above was at the point I wanted to make my purchase over the ‘black market’ at phing.com and olx.sg.  After contacting the sellers, they actually raised the value, saying there were people offering at this bid and ask if you wish to increase the bid.

This is auctioning, which is fine.  Duh~ Seems like anyone would really PAY any price beyond imagination to watch his concert BUT… But… BuT.. I deem these retards as mentally challenged.  These black market sellers ARE trying to make a profit and they are supporting their action!  They don’t even host the concert or allows you to gain SPECIAL entry to the concert, its JUST a concert, still.  You’re still sitting down, listening to his melancholy voice but at twice the price others would pay.  If I were to sit beside you and found that you actually pay twice the price, I would paste a label at the back of your seat.  “Retard, Head KENA CHOPPED!”

On another happier note, theres one more concert coming up =)  I hope this time round dont have so many ‘black market’ opportunity and lets enjoy his concert together!

Unfortunate Mishap

Rented a lorry for some school event. Was busy rushing around on the preparation day so decided to lent it to my friend so that he can drive it around when I take a final break at night. The next morning, a sudden call gave me a shock of my life. My friend left the lorry on a slope and went to washroom for awhile and when he came back, the lorry was on the pavement with this red ‘thing’. Thankfully noone was hurt when the lorry rolled down.

Alot of passerbys came to help and we finally manage to lift the lorry out from the ‘thing’ but unfortunately, the lorry had some dents at the front and the renter demands a SGD350 compensation. My friend was responsible enough to pay for the full compensation himself but it was a heavy price to pay for a lesson.

Pinkys 21st Birthday Party

I wanted to make her 21st the most memorable birthday celebration for her. Afterall, been 21st is really a huge milestone in one’s life as there will be alot of changes in life to face in time to come.

Being with her for the past 3years to come, we know each other pretty well and our relationship almost maintained still, in ‘honeymoon’ period, which means still sweet. Quarrels are inevitable because of our stubbornness and willfulness, but this did not set us apart and yet made our relationship stronger, bonded. It may seem that we are still a pair of fresh couple living in our honeymoon world but no.

Even before her birthday, the preparation started with me was also tiring. Imagine SMSing 80people and asking them to RSVP for the party when 70% of them did not reply the message. (ok my bad for not mentioning my name and the time of the party) but they could ask me while RSVPing! I also took an off-day to go spotlight to buy the necessary items to decorate her guestbook which costs me $80 and $25 for her printed photos for the use on the guestbook! It took me 8hours to prepare her guestbook, excluding 3hours standing like a scarecrow in Spotlight at Plaza Singapura.

Had an entire busy day for her birthday; went out in the afternoon with her mum to buy extra food just incase her buffet food was not enough. Then went to check in at Aranda Chalet, unloaded all the required items from my van such as 30stools, 2 foldable tables, food and drinks. Then while resting, I waited for the decoration team people to decorate her room with 100 HElium balloons and 42 will be used for clusterings. The balloons clusters are used to decorate the room at a lower level so that not all the balloons are high up. It is also nicer to take photos with the balloon clusters. I thought that 100balloons were too exaggerating but no, it wasn’t even filling up 1/5 of the living room, that how small 100 balloons cover.

Her relatives were kind to come in early at about 5pm to ask if I needed help for the party but I reckoned there wasn’t much things left to do in the first place, so they went off to E!hub with their kids to play.

Guests started to come in at around 7pm, earlier than expected (7.30pm) , while the food buffet was still been setup. It wasn’t that bad, guests who came earlier gets to eat first of course. Waited until about 8.30pm when most of the guests are in the room and even some outside her room. 1 of a biggest personal event I ever organised with an estimated turnout rate of at least 80 guests.

Getting her guestbook signed wasnt easy. I initially left it on the table near the entrance but someone moved it to the dining table and many people wasn’t aware of that, so I passed the book to Pinky so that when she was moving around chatting with her friends she could ask them to sign the book as well.

Personally, I also prepared the Chocolate Fondue fountain which I had bought for her as her christmas present 2009. Placed marshmallows, strawberries, kiwis, bananas and waffle biscuits for the guest and I’m so glad that they loved it.

Everything starts wrapping up after she was invited to cut her cake at 10pm because it was getting late and many people are leaving. Her $150 3KG 3D custom Gucci cake by Pine Gardens made the guests go ‘WOW!’, thats 1 of a expensive cake they have ever eaten, too, I believe.

Countdown to 2010 by the bay

Bought a pair of tickets for the countdown to 2010 at Marina Bay (seriously I dont know why is it called the marina bay now when the existing marina bay is still 2 stations away from the Cityhall station although the existing Marina Bay is left with sands and heavy vehicles, a beautiful pier and the Marina Barrage.)

The countdown 2010 began at 8PM with exotic performances by local rock bands such as The Great Spy Experiment, EIC, Singapore Idol Finalists and Da Mouth (after 11pm when the show was LIVE on the tv).  Mediacorp, broadcaster of the show had some technical faults when the show was LIVE, my god, very unprofessional all of a sudden.  Nevertheless, we enjoyed the performance throughout (although I shouted a woman to sit down when she was trying to take photo of the stage with her DSLR then I was very unhappy, I paid to SIT, not to stand along with her in order for me to watch the performances, so I shouted to ask her to SIT DOWN.  The people behind me, bet they know it was me, shouted ‘wah lau eh which fucker sia’.  I dont really care.  So what if ima fucker?  People are like that, when you don’t tell them they’re wrong, they will assume they are right, then she will continue standing to take photos while blocking the others.  Damn!  I was so helpful in this scenerio already!)

The 8minute 30secs fireworks was really exhilarating, every spark and explosion caused a tremendous blowoff in the sky, exhibiting different colors and shapes making the audiences go ‘WOW’.  As usual, people with camera, videoed the process while I try to take snapshops of the fireworks with my point-and-shoot.

Way to go Singapore!

HAPPY 2010 my readers!

A good webhosting company

I have been with the former webhosting company for the past 3 years and it have always been a breeze for me.  As a I.T geek, I have been able to resolve most of the issues from the client side on my account and thus I do not really have to depend on their support department until lately, the server crashed during a RAID backup and this is when, once again, I felt the need to backup my files frequently and web host.  The company, paused their monitoring site which claims that the server’s uptime is 99.5%.  When I checked the monitoring site during the downtime, I was surprised to see that the account has been paused.  This meant that during the server downtime, the monitoring is unable to capture and thus it provides end user with fake statistics, 99.5%!  This is really despicable and cunning!  There are ethics to follow in any kind of business and this is definitely morally evil!

The server was down for like 3 days (72 hours) and people were whining in their forum instead submitting technical support tickets because they were slow in replying or they gave fake replies such as ‘the server is up!’, ‘sorry but we do not face any issues on our side’, etc.  BULLSHIT.  I cant even login to my pop/smtp accounts!  As a normal user, I’m totally fine with the downtime; slap myself for getting a cheap webhost BUT my clients, I do not want to see them suffer along with me.  It is therefore time-critical for any website as they may lose potential customers in that moment!

So with all these taken into considerations, there is a need, for me to change my webhost despite been with them for the past 3years.  This downtime is uncalled for and should have been resolved in less than 24hours, if not 48hours, and this will be the only downtime for a year, then we can understand that.

So how to pick a good web host?

  • Check webhosting forum for reviews
  • Read the Terms and Conditions/Privacy/User Policy carefully
  • Google for other user reviews
  • Price, for the right amount of space and application you need
  • Check if they have 24/7 support on their main website and talk to their operator
  • Has CPanel or equivalent for easier managing
  • PHP/Apache/CGI etc.
  • Operating System: Win/Linux
  • Server Specifications
  • Sharing Load (amount of websites in a server)
  • Server location and datacenter

List is not arranged in order.  I hope you have found this article useful to you, in 1 way or another!

Kittylab Tour to Singapore

Inside the Kittylab was really very interesting with sanrio’s cartoon characters around and the cute little buildings that simulates the town of Sanrio.  When we entered, we were briefed on the basic instructions such as NO PHOTOGRAPHY and NO VIDEOGRAPHY, how to navigate the town and where to look for help etc.  Its like entering the science center, amazing.

Then we were given a kind of a token called KTA.  The KTA will allow us to move from station to station, playing games and winning accessories for your HelloKitty in it, then at the end of the tour you can exchange the KTA for a card which will have all your kitty information.

Then when touring in the lab, people start taking photos like nobody’s business despite tons of staffs telling them no photography allowed.  The most drastic thing is that I saw a person holding on to a DSLR?  Hello?  Isnt it damn obvious?  I mean the staff could have just offered to ‘keep’ the item for the person right?  On the website it has already written no photography allowed?  If that thing doesn’t get confiscated, I doubt @princesspinky89’s camera is going to, so I told her to take out her camera and just shoot whatever she want.  If the management screws me up, i will fuck them up.

Anyway I believed most of the staff did saw others taking out their cameras and phones but they could do nothing but verbal warning.  So the tour will be until 29th November and if you’re thick skinned like us enough, yeah you should just take out your camera and take photos.  You paid for it, so did anyone else.

The gaming things will take you about 30-45minutes at most, but you can mingle in there for the rest of the time taking photos but do avoid the staffs because they will come and nag and nag and nag ‘no photo please’ then you smile and pretend to keep and continue taking after they turn away thats all =p

Enjoy your tour!
