Countdown to 2010 by the bay

Bought a pair of tickets for the countdown to 2010 at Marina Bay (seriously I dont know why is it called the marina bay now when the existing marina bay is still 2 stations away from the Cityhall station although the existing Marina Bay is left with sands and heavy vehicles, a beautiful pier and the Marina Barrage.)

The countdown 2010 began at 8PM with exotic performances by local rock bands such as The Great Spy Experiment, EIC, Singapore Idol Finalists and Da Mouth (after 11pm when the show was LIVE on the tv).  Mediacorp, broadcaster of the show had some technical faults when the show was LIVE, my god, very unprofessional all of a sudden.  Nevertheless, we enjoyed the performance throughout (although I shouted a woman to sit down when she was trying to take photo of the stage with her DSLR then I was very unhappy, I paid to SIT, not to stand along with her in order for me to watch the performances, so I shouted to ask her to SIT DOWN.  The people behind me, bet they know it was me, shouted ‘wah lau eh which fucker sia’.  I dont really care.  So what if ima fucker?  People are like that, when you don’t tell them they’re wrong, they will assume they are right, then she will continue standing to take photos while blocking the others.  Damn!  I was so helpful in this scenerio already!)

The 8minute 30secs fireworks was really exhilarating, every spark and explosion caused a tremendous blowoff in the sky, exhibiting different colors and shapes making the audiences go ‘WOW’.  As usual, people with camera, videoed the process while I try to take snapshops of the fireworks with my point-and-shoot.

Way to go Singapore!

HAPPY 2010 my readers!

Miss Singapore, Ris Low Resigns

Been famous for the past few months for her poor command of English and had her interview on youtube with more than 200,000 views, this Miss Ris Low (aka) Miss Singapore Universe 2009 was in no way low profile.

Seriously, I won’t even care who won the Miss Singapore title until the youtube URL came into my MSN by my friends for mocking at her english and singlish, BOOMZ.  Pronouncing prints as preens, STEEL studying etc.  And I think if she had enough grooming for her competition, she should not just walk/behave like a model, but TALK like a model.

A bigger news hit her when she was charged for credit card fraud and they intend not to let the media know.  When you try to hide something and people find out, it will only create more trouble and woes.

And my friend even found her name on Wikipedia now.  She’s globally known!  If not for the competition, she could have gotten her conviction without anyone knowing.

NTU SCE/MSE Orientation Camp 2009 (Cosa Nostra)

I participated in an orientation camp last week as a Senior for the new upcoming students.  I didn’t attend this camp last year because I was still in the army (and I anticipated that engineering camp is boring because of the large number of guys compared to girls!)  but this camp proved that I was wrong!  The committee kept the ratio as equal as possible so that during ‘pairing’ games, no individuals will have to team with the same gender!

Other than been a good Senior during the camp, ofcourse I did bring my DSLR to take photos =)  A total of more than 3000 shutters been snapped and memory card was almost finished but thank god I borrowed from Mr Sunny!  Here are some of the things that we do during the camp!

Day 1:

We played ice-breaking games in Boon Lay bus interchange while waiting for some of the seniors to join our group and await for programmers to settle down in school first!  Then we went to school to continue playing games and then went off for amazing race at 4 – 5PM!  The amazing race took us the whole night and the last station was at Vivocity.  We then took a bus into a resort called ‘City Beach’ to settle down ourselves.  Then the seniors starts to tekan them at around 1am by blinding fold and asking them to say funny and humourous things such as ‘im a good guy!’ and ‘good guy die very badly!’ etc.  Never did they know right after the tekan, they got their SP night!  Playing prank with them and their SP when they’re been blindfolded can be awefully fun and sweet!  We cleared the freshies to bed at about 3am.

Day 2:

An early morning 9am, had breakfast and play some games in the morning at Citybeach..  (CityBeach is in Labrador Park, thus most of our games today was played there! ) Followed by some telematches such as ‘dog and bone’, ‘dodge ball’  and somemore etc.  Cant clearly remember all and there was a water bombing session at night (which turns out to be dreadful because the programmers drag too long and there seem to be personal grudges on the field =( but who am I to say!)  I watched the last episode of Red Thread by hiding myself in the room during the setup of the waterbombs.  The ending was far from what I had thought of.  Very confusing plot even at the end!

Day 3:

Finally got the chance to come out of Labrador Park once again!  We went for ‘Shi zhi lu kou’ (food hunting!) by going to different places in Chinatown and Central shopping mall, ate the food and went to Harbourfront interchange for our last food, Chicken Rice.  Had our lunch and left for Sentosa where I finally bought my new pairs of slippers at $8 and watched the freshies play the games.  Watching them smile and having fun just makes me feel much younger at times =)  Witness several seniors got thrown down into the sea and lucky for me, I told them I was holding to my camera and gadgets so they should not try to throw me!  Went back to Citybeach resort and settled down but room got really alot of people already, don’t know what they are thinking la, how to squeeze 14 seniors into 1 room?  Besides, some of the seniors don’t even interact with the freshies -_-‘  More like going there to have their own fun than to help out..

Day 4:

Meet up with their SP.  The guys get tekan to look for their own SP while the girls have wait for their SP to come to them.  They must guess whos the girl with that special ‘nickname’ assigned to them on their first SP night.  Tekan includes different kind of forfeits such as dancing with strangers, singing, strip half naked, etc.  Can have worse than you had imagined but you get the point!  Went to change for their clubbing attire after that,  had buffet dinner catered by the committee (I didnt eat at all!  By the time I reached there, the food all looks so ….)  Nevertheless, I went to drink with an empty stomach! =(

My group was quite good at clubbing with afew good dancers and some drinkers.  Played some games and performed their skit.  Left the place around 12.30am and 1 of the freshie lost her wallet & handphone.  My sympathies for her but there was nothing much we could do either =(  Here comes the funny part:  Joanne drank too much and she got too drunk, she told everyone around her to fuck off and go and die!  LOL!  Unforgettable indeed!

Day 5:

Break camp.  And all of us were so reluctant to leave the place =(

At the end of the day! Our very own ‘where is Matt Harding‘ spoof!

Please take a look at my facebook if you’re looking for more photos/videos, I cant possibly show them all here!

I already miss the camp so much!  I want to go for more!

National Day Parade 2009 Combined Rehearsal 2

* My apologies for not publishing this earlier! This was supposed to be posted 2 weeks ago!

Been given the opportunity by NDPeeps,Claudia from 24seven, it was definitely a pleasure to be able to be one of the first hundreds (ok, maybe thousands) to be able to watch their rehearsals before the preview and the actual.  And without further ado, let the pictures share my thoughts!

Note: Spoilers ahead.  Very spoilt ones (some).

The group of lucky fans who managed to watch this together!

Thats me and Pinky (the 1 with pink Canon Ixus camera).  The only odd ones out of the others in the same row because we’re the only ones wearing white!

And something new this year the committee has decided to try out?

Pole Dancing.  Exotic isn’t it?

What I like about this year’s Parade:

  1. New formation used for salute.  I like the navys’ firing than the usual artillery firing.  We always don’t get to see the actual artilleries and they use it every year.  Time for a change, good change.
  2. Song remixes.  Instead of the boring and usual themes you listen every year, they mixed it around! Pleasantly enough.
  3. The Chinook above the water surface that cause waves on the water; the effect is fucking great.  How I wish I was right there at the Merlion!
  4. Sudden news broke off about Singapore being attacked.  The defence forces of Singapore came out and showcase their vigilance.  (Abit Wayang but hey, its better than those boring parades that we watch every year, at least they shown the others how we make use of our equipment to defend Singapore)
  5. Fireworks.  (All time favourite)
  6. An all new marina wave?  They say raise up your cameras or handphones like the kallang wave.
  7. Very creative and innovative lights and decorations.

So what are the things that I dont really like about this year’s Parade?

  1. I find the LCD panel inbetween between the stage and the actual is not very ‘obvious’ at times and can cause distractions.  Distracts me away from the performance, really.
  2. As usual, inaccessibility again.  Where to park car?  Simple, don’t drive unless you wanna get jammed in/out of the show.
  3. Imagine the filtering process for audience on temperature due to H1N1, its gona take hell loads of time and patience.  Today was excellent because the crowd was little.
  4. Colors of the spotlights,  sometimes too red, sometimes too blue.. (too strong!)  Moderation is better.

Here are some of the pictures taken with my humble Canon 400D, Tamron 18-200mm f3.5 – f6.3 and 28-75 f2.8 (for night shots): not arranged in any order!

(yeah, I know its blur =( i didnt bring my tripod because my girl has a bandage on her leg!)

See what the other blogger says!

Pussycat Dolls – Domination Tour Singapore 2009

The reason why we had to watch this concert is because there were rumours spreading around on the Internet that Nichole (the main lead singer) might be leaving the Pussycat Dolls(PCD) for her solo career but a google search indicated that the rumour is untrue and she will not leave the PCD.

And if you notice from my pictures below, yeah 1 of the babe, Jessica didnt perform because she wasnt feeling well (once again, rumours?)  Im not sure about that but the concert didn’t seem COMPLETE as they lack of a person and the gaps between the team, there always seem to have a room for 1.

I would have enjoyed the concert if the people around me and my dearest would stand up and groove to the music and being the first 5rows at the front, we know we shouldnt stand up and block the view of the audiences behind.  The other areas seem more lively than ours for sure, and music is really regardless of age; I saw a family with 40s/50s grandma walking in, and grooving!

To make our day better, class95 fm DJs, Glenn Ong and Jean Danker were just sitting right infront of us =) JD’s really pretty and so is Glenn, and his tatoo!

Greatest Concert missed – Coldplay

Alright. Im going to whine about my loss of NOT being able to purchase Coldplay’s concert tickets.. Feeling kind of sad that I was unable to pay for it =/ anyway it was long sold out before the concert was publicised. There are many Coldplay fans in Singapore =) Here’s the mash up video of their performance in Singapore, from the mid/far range seats:

AND MY FAVOURITE SONG: YELLOW

The concert definitely LOOKS and SOUNDS better than the concerts I’ve EVER been to.  (mcr, a7x, rja are all really nth compared to them! Just LOOK AT THE AUDIENCE AND THEIR ENTHUSIASM!)

Ntu student suicide after stabbing lecturer

Weijia broke this news to me when I bumped into him at the Old canteen A of NTU.  Gees.  This is indeed a nightmare for the lecturer:

A final year engineering student at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) jumped from a campus block after stabbing a professor Monday morning.

The professor was in his office at the engineering faculty when the student stabbed him in the back with a knife, leaving him injured.

After stabbing, the male student, who was in his 20s, slit his wrists and jumped off a five-storey high building.

Police say they received a call about the incident at 10.35am, and arrived to find the student dead at the bottom of the engineering block.

A shocking news indeed. Read more about it on ChannelNewsAsia site.

And alot of commotions about it when I was walking around the campus, students are pretty concerned with this matter and how would the school handle.  Others, were treating it like some kind of drama, thinking that this would only happen in the foreign countries (recall about the student that went on berserk rage with his gun?).  Some, was wondering if the student was a native because native, don’t do such things but hey, we do much more silly things than the others do.

-1 burden

I had my first dance performance on thursday and it was really wonderful.  My girl has already helped me to blog about it in the previous entry and I am thankful to her.  Thank you dear!

She came down to surprise me with my sister this time, lying to me that she went to sleep due to some incomfortness, and I really thought she was not feeling well.   Thanks for my brother for coming down to pick the girls up too!  Then I brought them over to the opposite famous roti prata stall for a sumpteous supper! Had some ice creams and.. ta da came back to my hall!

I was really nervous during the performance but thankfully, everything went almost as it was during the rehearsals since Monday except for some minor hiccups like BK dropping his cap like Roy and unable to pop up the confettis, michelle had a small glitch on moving and we are not HIP enough and our expression really needs to improve alot.  This is the video here:

Trust me, the trainings were damn fierce and time consuming; imagine having to sacrifice my time to study and talk to my girl at night for these 2months since school started!  oh god, and almost 3-4hours every mon, wed and thurs!

Im glad its over, so its -1 again to my burden!  Now I will have more free time to accompany my girl.

Goodbye 2008; Hello 2009!

Went to shop at Bugis today since afternoon; had lunch with my baby at the temporary market, then shopped for hours in SimLim Square as I was thinking of getting a NAS for my school and get her an external harddisk.. then walked over to Bugis Street and got myself a new shoulder bag & cap:

Took a bus over to Funan to buy her a Western Digital harddiskWatched the fireworks on the bridge and Im pretty surprised with my dad’s Point&Shoot camera being able to set Manual mode but I can only adjust the ISO; the aperture and shutter speed is still pre-determined by the camera itself thus I have quite afew blurry and unclear shots:

Countdown to 2009 at the Fullerton Bridge was great.  I didn’t get the chance to really count down (5, 4, 3, 2, 1) because people where pushing and shouting everywhere and I was totally lucky to be in the walk way of the bridge.  They closed the walkway from public from 11pm onwards and thankfully I was there since 9pm (ok i’m really kiasu lar!).  At first I was wondering why the barricade out the walkway and the road but after that I realise they had their reason.  The road was completely filled and looked so out-of-control at around 11.45pm!  The cisco ushers had a hard time controlling the crowd as well.

Anyway, the fireworks was really fantastic.  It was like, just before the front of my eyes and the sound of the combustions was like rapidly fired guns!

View more photos here!

2008 passed really fast, with the following summary:

  • Im officially out of army (ORD loh!)
  • Im a student once again (studying in NTU)
  • I neglected most of my friends
  • I’m pretty stucked up
  • School is both fun and boring
  • I’ve made new friends from school!
  • My result sucked
  • Taste of freedom; yet again.

And my 2009 to-do list, uncompleted list but have been running through my brains:

  • Study better
  • Make more friends
  • Keeping our relationship stable
  • Priorities things better
  • Time management; reject procrastinations
  • Quit puffing (smoking) officially (thanks to the god damn 2009 new bans on smoking areas)
  • Keep things as easy and simple
  • Less temperamental
  • Make my house IN2009 (saving to install network access storage to share files in my family with RAID1 (for backup) and network media player so that my big plasma TV is not under-utilized by just cableTV)
  • Proper file management
  • Be nicer to friends (requested by Sunny; he’s saying Im not treating them well enough =*)

Nevertheless, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

There’s a bigger note that says: Its darling’s birthday tomorrow!
